Welcome to TVDVDCombo.net. My name is Roger and it is my pleasure to welcome you to my site. My friends call me a “TV junkie”, although not in the sense that I watch too much television, but in the fact that I always have that nasty habit to closely examine the specs and features of any TV appliance that I come across.
In all my life as a “TV junkie” so to speak (which began in my late 40’s, by the way), I have come across dozens of brands and models that went under my scrutiny. Roughly 70% of those were owned either by me or my friends and close relatives. I usually look at the manuals/user guides that come with the TV unit and read them like novels and then do some actual testing of the features explained in the manuals. That is how I usually end up with much of my opinions and reviews but only for my personal consumption. Is that unit a so-so? A good buy? A horrible piece? Not worth the price? What I opine usually hover around these questions.
HOW I ENDED UP TALKING ABOUT TV/DVD COMBOS
Some few years back, I had noticed that a common notion circulating around television consumer circles is that TV DVD combos are often associated with low-quality brands having features considered to be just few and far between, and that these things are just the budget types good only for the kids bedroom and the kitchen area. While that may be true with the old ones just having small CRT screens, recent High Definition technology coupled with increased tv screen sizes has introduced a new viewing experience to the crowd. That is, the quality of dvd combo televisions has made a big leap forward when HD TVs (Plasma TVs, LED TVs and LCD TVs) were introduced into the market. In fact, the technology associated with these types of televisions has been in the fast lane and dozens manufacturers have been jumping into the bandwagon trying to outsell each other. As such, the big names in tv technology such as: Sony, Samsung, Toshiba, Sharp and Philips, all have been making some respectable models of television dvd combo units to this day.
Although I am an aficionado of premier home theatre systems and television technology as well, I honestly haven’t realized fully well why I was using these lowly-regarded combo tv sets for our kids room and our kitchen as well. Back then, all I would consider is budget. At least, I don’t need any high-priced TVs in those areas anyway (I was still using the CRT TV combo units back then). With that, my “TV Junkie” consciousness then egged me to research more on the subject which led me to find the answers that satisfied me. Jumping from magazine to magazine or website to website looking for answers isn’t a walk in the park, but looking at the brighter side, I learned a lot and related it to my experiences.
TV DVD COMBO SYSTEMS TODAY
These combo units usually cater to a consumer niche that highly considers space, budget, simplicity and less clutter when it comes to home television systems. Prior to LCD and LED TV screens, this niche has been somewhat small and TV/DVD Combo systems are usually regarded for secondary usage only. Primary home entertainment systems are usually made from separate components (external DVD player with amplifiers, TV unit, external wi-fi speakers). Although primary home entertainment systems using individual components are still heavily favored and respected than combo TVs/DVDs up to this day, the latter has shown an upward trend pertaining to technology used.
But despite these advancements in TV technology, tv/dvd combos haven’t been able to penetrate the home theatre entertainment system segment, at least not yet. One notable drawback to this is the fact that most consumers are wary about their investments being put into one single basket. That is, since the dvd and tv unit are put into a single package, one cannot upgrade one component without including the other. Further, consumers are also putting up a big deal of anxiety with the fact that if one component breaks down, the entire package won’t be usable. These two factors alone are the main reasons why combos are still only considered for secondary uses such as in the bedrooms, dining area and the garage. TV manufacturers have long been recognizing this consumer behavior.
WILL THEY BECOME OBSOLETE?
In my opinion, NO. Even though these tv units are not meant to replace the more modern and feature-laden complete sets of home entertainment units, tv/dvd combos will be here to stay ,and there will always be a market for them. Even though the prices of combo units using the latest projection technology have, more or less, been at the same ballpark as prices for a separate TV and a separate DVD player, the advantages of using tv/dvd units for various and distinct consumer uses are the factors why they still have their own following. That is why manufacturers haven’t abandoned marketing to this market segment, and as a matter of fact, new lcd combo units using the latest tv and dvd technologies with increased screen size are introduced every year.
WHAT THIS SITE IS ABOUT
I’ve put up this site as a hobby. I wanted to have an avenue where I can freely share my opinions and reviews on TV DVD Combos in particular. After all, many of my close friends and relatives are making me the go-to ‘old man’ when they need to ask something covering this subject matter. Please note that I usually refer to TV DVD Combos and not tv units or dvd players as separate components. I will share my reviews and opinions about the ones that I’ve tested and actually used. Moreover, I have also taken other people’s experiences into note. I may collate reviews and experiences from my friends and close relatives who happen to own or have used a tv/dvd unit. I may also gather other reviews from credible sources such as Consumersearch and Consumerreport to help my readers access the best information via the easiest way possible.
What I aim to achieve with this personal site is to make it a helpful stop for people looking to purchase tv/dvd or simply want to research more information before they put their hands on their wallets or credit cards. I do my best to provide the best and quality information that I can based on my experiences with TVs with built-in DVD players and that of others as well. I may also have other ramblings put up as articles and news articles in case I want to share something important to my readers. This site will be continually updated with reviews, articles guides, article tips and news in the tv/dvd world, so please check back often.
My site is far from perfect, but I’m trying hard to make it a good site that will help and benefit my readers. If you see any errors in the information I present here or have any suggestions on how to improve this site or make it more useful and easy to navigate, I would be glad to take your criticisms and suggestions. You can always shoot me an email here.
Thank you for taking the time to visit this site and hope that you’ll check back often. If you need to be updated of any new reviews, tips, guide and news that go live in this site, you can subscribe to my RSS feed.
One last thing, if you happen to own or have any experience (positive and negative) with tv/dvd combos, you are free to share them in here and let us all benefit from it.
